Aussies love prawns on Christmas Day! But not all Aussies experience this magnificent tradition, as it’s impossible to get a fresh prawn on Christmas Day when you live in the town of Eromanga, the furthest town in Australia from the sea.
This Christmas, the folks at XXXX Gold have delivered some end of year cheer. They commandeered a semi-trailer and filled it with the freshest prawns Queensland has to offer – right off the trawler. When the dust settled after the 1,300km drive, they shared this great Aussie tradition with their mates from the bush, making this festive season one to remember.
Eromanga farmer and Quilpie Shire Mayor, Stuart Mackenzie couldn’t wipe the smile off his face when he heard about the special delivery: “I actually can’t remember the last time I ate a fresh prawn.”
Alec Mackenzie, Eromanga local, said XXXX’s prawn delivery was the best thing to happen to the town: “This was so good for the town. It is the best thing anyone here can hope for and people will talk about it for years to come. Mate – I never thought I’d say that I smell like prawns in Eromanga – how good is that!”
